I sat and watched this one for a long time and it suddenly started behaving in a most peculiar manner, ducking under the water and propelling itself forward really fast and then it took up this pose and sort of hovered, before settling down again. It was really beautiful. I have spent hours watching swans on the lake but I have never seen another one behave like that.

I have a feeling it might have been washing and settling its feathers. It's a lovely photo. Or maybe some mating behaviour.
Sometimes we hear wild swans flying over. We are near a river as well as a canal. They seem to fly along the river and are perhaps attracted by the others they see here.
Those that belong to the park were shut in an enclosure for months this winter because of a case of bird 'flu not very far away? They only had a small square of water. Their young one was full size before they were let out to swim around normally.
They're very tame and are used to lots of tourists - they will come out of the water to see what you've got for them to eat. They are very ungainly on dry land - they have huge, clumsy feet!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

We have swans on the canal in the park but one wing is always clipped to keep them.
